Special exhibition of the 50 best album covers

Visitors can marvel at the 50 best album covers of the year 2016, selected by a jury comprising renowned design experts and previous prize laureates, on display at the HIGH END 2017 in the MOC.

The “packaging or cover” of an album – also referred to as artwork – is an essential and im- portant part of the album and over the decades developed into its own art form. For many vinyl fans, the design of the album cover is an important incentive to buy the album.

Since 2005, “Art Vinyl” has voted annually on the “Best Art Vinyl Award” for the most creative album cover. In 2016, this prize was awarded for the 11th time. The cover art exhibits are on display on every exhibition day in the foyer of the MOC between Halls 1 and 2 on the ground floor.

Seasoned Editors

The hi-fi magazine “Stereoplay”, in cooperation with the High End Society, has produced a music CD for this year’s exhibition, featuring high-quality recordings that are particularly well suited for listening tests and demonstrations of hi-fi equipment. No less than 14 mu- sical pieces provide the perfect means to bring out aspects such as tone colors, deep bass and spatial imaging.

The seasoned listening testers Andreas Günther and Roland Kraft will take turns joining editor-in-chief Malte Ruhnke in visiting nine selected exhibitors on the public days from Friday to Sunday and demonstrating individual tracks from the reference CD, in addition to revealing their tips and tricks for evaluating the sound when it comes to listening tests.
